Antwerp

Antwerp is popular with expats, due to the significant economic and industrial activity both around the port, the River Scheldt and further inland, creating a thoroughly cosmopolitan atmosphere. As a result, there is a sizeable expat community, believed to number around 5,000 of the 450,000 population, mainly of British and American families.

Most expats reside in the North of the City where there are large homes with quality gardens. However, there is also a good range of smaller accommodations more centrally.

Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world is steeped in history, largely as a result of its geographical location and its prominence as one of the top ten gateways for international maritime trade.

Numerous local attractions include the Diamond Quarter, the Fashion Museum and the excellent local shopping area. For those seeking more cultural experiences, the Cathedral with its wedding cake spire has several major treasures and the City also boasts the Rubens Museum.

For many months, and many more to come, the entire road system around Antwerp has been undergoing restructuring. Consequently, think carefully about travel times when passing near or around the City.
