Area
One of the 19 communes itself, “Ville de Bruxelles” is made up of six parts: the Pentagon (town centre), Laeken, Neder-over-Heembeek, Haren, the line south of Louise-Roosevelt and the European quarter (Léopold, Schuman and the Squares). By nature it is densely populated and very busy however, off the beaten paths there are many nice quiet secluded areas with old style housing.
The town centre in Brussels is mainly administrative and commercial, with numerous shopping areas and hotels and also the Bourse. It is not really residential, even if some unusual forms of accommodation can be found there, such as mezzanine flats off the Mont des Arts or mansion houses by the Grand-Place. The line Avenue Louise - Avenue Franklin Roosevelt is home to impressive embassies set in magnificent properties.
The Commune includes the Sablon, the cultural centre of Brussels with its popular Sunday Morning, internationally renowned Antiques Market. The area is trendy and stylish and offers a wide variety of night-life, catering for all tastes and budgets.

Just about everything can be found somewhere in this commune, although land area is limited. City centre family homes are very popular and in recent years, numerous developments have been built or renovated, particularly along the canalside area, including quality loft conversions for city living.
