When in Belgium, do as the Belgians?
Like so many continentals, food is for enjoyment and not for rushing. Whilst there are a few “fast-food” outlets, the culture of the country will never allow such an idea to catch on. Many Belgians will shop every day for fresh food and similarly, good venues for a quick snack will also serve only the best ingredients.
Take your time and settle down for a late morning snack or lunch at one of the many “Le Pain Quotidien”. People watching is an art form in Belgium; you seem to be the only one noticing anything whilst the others get on with their daily routine.
Nonetheless, enjoy a glass of wine or sample the aroma from perfectly brewed coffee and try a tartine, a beautiful open sandwich made with real bakery bread and loaded with, say, fresh basil and beef.
