Schooling

Education in Belgium is of a very good standard but it should be appreciated that the choice available to expat families can be very limited and can be defined dependant upon the country of origin, educational system and language. If an orientation tour or a homesearch programme is commissioned, general information will be provided at that stage and this may be adequate for the parents’ needs.

However, we do have specialist assistance available which can be provided where additional assistance is required:

Level One

The Personal Relocation Manager will provide a consultative telephone service to employees and their families moving to Belgium. Suitable options will be identified, both (but not limited to) State and Independent in the new area, advice given on the best performing schools, providing prospectuses and details of entry procedures and guidance towards relevant web sites and other points of information.

Level Two

As well as delivering the above, the Personal Relocation Manager will explain the schooling system and advise on how this may differ to their current circumstances, identifying the individual children’s needs and providing relevant and appropriate schools within a commuting distance that is considered reasonable to the new work location.

Appointments will be set up for the parents to view the school options identified, counselling given to the parents on the areas they should be looking out for when visiting the schools and arming them with relevant questions to ask of the school. A post visit follow up session will offer advice on next steps and options and to assist in the application processes.

Level Three

To incorporate all of the above services but to include accompanied visits to the schools with the parents by the Personal Relocation Manager.

Additional specialist advice is available for handling matters such as appeals procedures or for helping families with special needs.
