The Area
Uccle is the perhaps the prettiest, most distinguished commune in the Brussels region. After Bruxelles-Ville, it is the biggest in terms of size and the fourth largest in terms of population.
Another very popular location for expats and also one of the more wealthy communes. An English style atmosphere is created by the green avenues and the open spaces which have been retained. The Foret de Soignes covers a wide area offering wooded parklands for recreational use and an opportunity to get away from the City and enjoy its beauty and quiet. Nonetheless, the Commune also has some of the best shopping locations.
It is unfortunately inhibited by the lack of connection to the Metro system but this is compensated for by the very good tram service. Some of the roads in the locality date back to the turn of the last Century and were not built for heavy traffic so parking can therefore be at a premium.
Accommodation
Similar to Ixelles, almost everything is available from studios to large detached properties.
“ Maison de maitres ” are common large town houses, usually on 4/5 floors. The main reception area was typically built “trois pieces en filade”, three separate rooms which could open up to a grand assembly room. Many of these properties have been converted to high quality apartments although others remain intact and are available for rental.
